Treatment Approach

Dr. Fraidin develops individualized treatment plans for each client based on their needs. Of primary importance is the therapeutic relationship and helping clients develop the trust and comfort they need to communicate openly.

Dr. Fraidin specializes in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), which is based on the premise that the way we think directly affects how we feel and act. CBT focuses on identifying and challenging automatic, self-defeating thoughts that lead to emotional distress and problematic behaviors, and replacing them with rational, healthy thoughts. Through your work with Dr. Fraidin, you will learn to monitor your thoughts and, in turn, feel more in control of your life. She can help you gain insight into your current thoughts and behaviors and develop coping skills to reduce distress.
Dr. Fraidin favors CBT due to its proven effectiveness. In fact, many studies show that CBT is just as effective at managing emotional conditions, such as anxiety and depression, as psychiatric medication, and has better outcomes for relapse prevention. Cognitive behavioral therapy focuses on how you are currently thinking and behaving, rather than targeting early childhood experiences. However, Dr. Fraidin allows for exploration of difficult past experiences that may impact current problematic attitudes, feelings, and behaviors. In such cases, the focus remains solution-oriented and is meant to augment CBT by helping individuals better understand and accept the origins of their dysfunctional patterns. Dr. Fraidin also performs biofeedback, a treatment technique in which people are trained to improve their mental and physical health by using signals from their own bodies. Biofeedback provides a proven nonpharmacological approach to symptom reduction for such problems as:
